Ecopetbed card litter

For a good while now I have been using a cardboard based litter called Ecopetbed which is ideal for rats. It consists of strips and squares of corrugated card about 1cm in width, and of varying lengths. This random cut makes the bedding bulky and comfortable - easy for the rats to 'arrange', dig in and carry around the cage. The corrugated cut edge of the card means that urine is easily absorbed, and retained without wetting the rest of the bedding. It is dust extracted and heavy enough to stay inside the cage.

All the paper/card used in its manufacture is 'clean' waste, that is offcuts from factories rather than previously used paper and the manufacturing process is segregated to avoid contamination. Finally it is low cost. Each large bale weighs approx 23kg. The company (Earthly Enterprises) normally supplies me with a pallet of 24 bales, and I sell it at £8.00 per bale. Ian at Earthly Enterprises will send out a single bale by parcel post, but then the cost will then include p&p for 23kg (approx £20).

Ian is extremely helpful, and though you may at first get through to an answer machine, do leave a message as he will always call you back. Delivery is generally fast and efficient and they are an excellent company to deal with all round.
