The North of England Rat Society (NERS)
The NERS is a regional rat club that I have been part of since its conception and am proud to belong to. It has it's own unique 'flavour', and is a club that promotes rats as unique, intelligent and wonderful creatures, first and foremost.
The club has a strong focus on rescue, pet ownership and ethical breeding practices. This is reflected in its bi-monthly magazine which aims to be of interest to anyone who seeks the companionship of rats, whether they enjoy showing or not. Articles are generally original, and relevant whether you have had rats in your life for just a short time, or for many years. It also hosts regional rat events in the North of England such as shows and pet fun days.
We have a national rescue fund which is administered by the society, and can be accessed by anyone who is involved in rat rescue. It is designed to help to cover the costs of rescuing rats, and pays out for medical care, castrations, equipment and even food/litter when appropriate. If you wish to apply to the rescue fund you can do so online via the society's website.
Anyone who is in sympathy with our aims and objectives can join the NERS, regardless of geographical location. Even some of our committee members do not live in the north. Our name simply reflects the fact that we offer representation in the North of England for regional rat shows. There are many benefits of becoming a member:
- NERS Joining pack (welcome letter, complementary copy of Rattitude, rules and varieties booklet and a little something for you and your ratties too).
- Rattitude. Quarterly, full colour, A5 newsletter with a wide range of new and informative articles as well as society news and information.

- Right to a voice and a vote on how the society evolves, by post or email if preferred.
